Students in third grade learn to play the recorder using the motivational Recorder Karate method. This method allows students to progress at their own pace. Third graders earn recorder "belts" by accurately playing songs of increasing difficulty.
In order to make steady progress on the recorder, students should be practicing 10 minutes per day at home. Remember to cover the holes tightly with your fingers (leaks cause squeaks!), left hand on top, and to "whisper" into the instrument for a beautiful soft sound.
Students should be practicing... concert songs! Starship BAG, Shark CAGE, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Amazing Grace, Ode to Joy/To Joy, Hambone, and Que Bonita Bandera. All songs will be performed from memory. We look forward to seeing you at our concert on May 2nd.
Third graders are encouraged to practice Shark CAGE with the video below.
